Plenty of Fish
Markus Frind, the founder and CEO of Plenty of Fish (POF), built a $10 million/year dating app entirely on his own. He created the platform in 2003 as an exercise to learn ASP.NET, a new programming language at the time. Frind singlehandedly developed POF in just two weeks, intending to enhance his résumé. The site quickly gained popularity, amassing significant monthly traffic and growing to generate $833,000 in monthly revenue. In December 2015, POF hit $96 million in annual revenue. By 2019, despite fluctuations, the platform remained profitable and reached $107 million in annual revenue. In 2015, Frind sold Plenty of Fish for approximately $575 million.
