Workee
About the Company
Workee is based in Lewes, Delaware, USA, and was founded in January 2020 by Ihor Bauman, Artem Kanaki, and Yevhen Kyselov. The company offers a comprehensive software solution tailored for freelancers, focusing on those who conduct online appointments. Workee integrates website building, payment processing, booking, and video calls, streamlining business management for its users.
Workee's primary target audience includes private tutors, coaches, psychologists, nutritionists, and stylists. The platform aims to help these professionals manage their businesses more efficiently by reducing reliance on multiple tools and eliminating high marketplace fees. The company currently has six employees and generates $1,000 in monthly revenue.
Idea Behind Company
The idea for Workee stemmed from a personal experience when Ihor Bauman's mother, a therapist, lost her job due to COVID-19 safety requirements. Observing the challenges freelancers faced in managing online appointments, the founders conducted interviews with professionals in similar fields and identified a need for an all-in-one business management tool.
Recognizing the opportunity, Ihor teamed up with his former colleagues, Artem and Yevhen, to create a solution. Their combined experience in software development and business analysis provided a strong foundation for developing Workee, aiming to automate routine tasks and allow freelancers to focus on their clients.
Creating the Company
The founding team, having previously worked together in various software development roles, started developing Workee during the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing an Agile development approach, they worked remotely with team members across different countries, including Ukraine, the USA, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Nigeria.
The initial concept was to create a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that integrated essential business management functions. The team prioritized rapid development and user feedback to refine their product. They validated their development steps through customer interactions and market research, ensuring their solutions met user needs.
Launching the Business
Before full-scale development, Workee ran a marketing campaign with a simple landing page to gauge interest. They spent $500 on Facebook Ads, targeting freelancers who conduct consultations. The campaign resulted in 199 sign-ups, indicating strong interest and a cost-effective acquisition strategy.
The team delivered the MVP in three months, onboarded early users, and gathered valuable feedback to improve the product. This iterative process of development and feedback allowed them to make quick adjustments and meet user expectations, setting a strong foundation for the business.
Earnings
Since launching, Workee has focused on both paid and organic customer acquisition channels. About one-third of their sign-ups come from organic sources, while the rest are driven by paid channels such as search engine ads, social media ads, and influencer marketing. They actively work on their blog and content to boost organic growth.
Looking ahead, Workee plans to introduce a fully free package to enhance user growth and retention. Their goal is to reach 20,000 users by the end of 2022, with a conversion rate of 5-7% to a Pro plan. The company also aims to expand its market focus to include other professionals like nutritionists, stylists, and creative freelancers.
