Wishup
About the Company
Wishup is a virtual assistant marketplace founded by Neelesh Rangwani and Vivek Gupta. It connects business owners and entrepreneurs with skilled remote assistants to support various professional tasks. The company provides services to small and medium businesses (SMBs), including virtual assistants, bookkeeping assistants, and remote developers, and aims to expand its service categories to healthcare, legal, real estate, and financial sectors. Wishup has also launched a podcast series and an affiliate program to promote its services and drive growth.
The company's mission is to support business owners by providing reliable and professional virtual assistants to manage tasks and help them focus on expanding their companies. Wishup is dedicated to creating a scalable and efficient remote staffing solution, with a significant emphasis on customer satisfaction and service quality. The company has experienced year-on-year revenue growth of 300% and user growth of approximately 200%, now serving over 500 clients.
Idea Behind Company
The idea for Wishup originated when Neelesh Rangwani and Vivek Gupta met at IIT Madras in 2015 and explored the high-end concierge space using technology. They initially saw success and growth through customer recommendations. However, as their clientele increased, they noticed a decrease in task volume, realizing that their clients, primarily business owners and startups, needed more comprehensive support to manage their operations effectively.
To address this demand, they relaunched their services to offer skilled and professional virtual assistants to freelancers and small businesses. This pivot allowed them to better meet the needs of their clients, who required dependable and efficient help to focus on growing their companies. The ability to pursue their vision and make autonomous decisions has been a significant driver of satisfaction and accomplishment for the founders.
Creating the Company
The initial version of Wishup targeted Indian businessmen, providing intelligent assistants to support their online activities without being a liability. Leveraging Vivek's experience in operations and team-building from his time at BCG, they developed Wishup in 2015, launching it fully in April 2017. Initially, the company operated with minimal technology, relying on Excel sheets and direct client meetings to gather feedback and reports.
Starting with a team of four, including two recent college graduates with strong operational skills, and six virtual assistants, they bootstrapped the startup with personal savings of Rs 10 lakh. Neelesh's experience in Facebook ads also played a crucial role in promoting the business. Wishup's mission is to grant wishes by completing business owners' professional tasks, inspiring the company's name.
Launching the Business
Wishup transitioned from a chat-based concierge service to a virtual assistant service in March 2017, experiencing exponential growth through recommendations and client referrals. The rapid expansion led them to adopt a remote working model to optimize efficiency and reduce commuting time. They streamlined their processes, established SOPs for hiring, training, client communication, and task management, enhancing their operational effectiveness.
In 2017, Wishup secured funding from Inflection Point Ventures, with backing from prominent clients and investors such as 500 Startups and TracxnLabs. Recognizing the greater market potential and demand in the US, they shifted their focus to this market in April 2019, expanding their service offerings to include virtual bookkeepers and remote developers. The goal is to create jobs for a million people and help businesses set up remote teams quickly.
