By offering customized features and solutions, the company has been able to attract and retain a loyal customer base, contributing to its steady growth and financial success.

Idea Behind Company

The inspiration for Wellyx came from Katherine Barlow's personal experience managing a health club in London. Frustrated with the existing software options that failed to meet her needs for managing stock, operations, and marketing, Katherine saw an opportunity to create a better solution. This insight led her to conceptualize Wellyx, a software that could fill the gap in the market.

To validate her idea, Katherine conducted an opportunity gap survey to identify the specific needs of health clubs and fitness businesses. She discovered that many businesses were struggling with inefficient tools that required multiple integrations and did not offer a comprehensive solution. This reinforced her belief that an all-in-one fitness management tool would be highly valuable to the industry.

Katherine discussed her idea with close friends and was referred to a full-stack developer who would become the lead developer for Wellyx. With seven years of industry experience, this developer had the expertise needed to bring Katherine's vision to life. Together, they began the journey of creating a software solution that would revolutionize the way fitness businesses operate.

Creating the Company

The development of Wellyx began with a small team of five people, including a UX designer and developers. Katherine relied on a mutual connection to manage the hiring process, ensuring that the team had the necessary technical skills. As the project progressed, the team expanded to 80 members before the first version of the software was launched, reflecting the growing complexity and ambition of the project.

In the early stages of development, the team focused on streamlining operations and ensuring smooth online bookings. They integrated Jira with Google Workspace to manage resources and streamline the development workflow. The goal was to create a user-friendly interface that could handle the diverse needs of fitness businesses, from managing memberships to scheduling classes.

Throughout the development process, the team conducted market research and experiments with web design to refine their product. They also worked on pricing strategies to ensure that Wellyx would be competitively positioned in the market. By the time the first version was ready, the team had created a robust and reliable software solution that could meet the needs of fitness businesses of all sizes.

Launching the Business

Wellyx was officially launched in 2015, after a year of intensive design, coding, and testing. Katherine initially integrated the software into her own fitness center, where it proved to be highly effective in managing inventory, memberships, class scheduling, and online bookings. The success of this initial implementation gave Katherine the confidence to market Wellyx to other small fitness businesses.

To promote Wellyx, Katherine leveraged her extensive network within the fitness industry. She contacted approximately 35 fitness centers, urging them to try the software. Although only a dozen agreed to give it a go initially, 11 of them continue to use Wellyx to this day. This initial success demonstrated the value of the software and provided a solid foundation for further growth.

To attract more customers, Wellyx adopted a "Freemium Model," offering a one-month free trial. This strategy allowed potential clients to experience the benefits of the software firsthand. The positive feedback from these trials helped convert trial users into paying customers, validating the effectiveness of the product and the attractiveness of its pricing.

Earnings

Wellyx currently generates $60,000 per month in revenue and aims to reach $150,000 by the end of the year. The company has around 200 loyal annual users and continues to secure new deals regularly. Wellyx's comprehensive marketing strategy, which includes cold emailing, SEO, and PPC advertisements, has been instrumental in driving traffic and generating leads.

The company's marketing efforts have been highly effective, with their monthly organic visitors reaching around 21k and generating 1.1 million impressions. This strong online presence has helped Wellyx attract a steady stream of new customers and retain existing ones. Additionally, the development of mobile applications for both Android and iOS platforms has further enhanced the accessibility and convenience of the software for users.

Looking ahead, Wellyx plans to expand its product offerings and continue improving its customized SaaS solutions for various fitness and wellness businesses. By staying responsive to customer needs and industry trends, Wellyx aims to maintain its growth trajectory and solidify its position as a leading fitness management software provider.
