About the Company

Sync2Sheets, created by Leandro Zubrezki, is a Google Workspace Add-On designed to sync Notion databases with Google Sheets. Founded in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the company has garnered significant attention from both small businesses and large enterprises, such as Canva and Wix. As of now, Sync2Sheets boasts $9,000 in monthly recurring revenue (MRR) with more than 400 paying customers.

Leandro, originally a freelance software developer, returned to his dream of building a SaaS product three years ago. Sync2Sheets is his main focus, although he has also developed integrations for other platforms like Coda and is working on Quicktion, an add-on for saving emails to Notion. The success of Sync2Sheets can be attributed to its ability to streamline the data synchronization process between Notion and Google Sheets, enhancing productivity for its users.

The company's growth is largely organic, with Leandro managing all aspects of the business by himself. Sync2Sheets operates with no employees, relying on automated tools and efficient workflows to maintain its operations. This lean structure has enabled Leandro to keep costs low while maximizing profitability.

Idea Behind Company

The concept for Sync2Sheets emerged from Leandro's passion for building his own tools. He initially learned coding to create personal projects but was sidetracked by freelance work. In 2020, with enough savings to last a few years, he decided to fully commit to developing his SaaS product. While working on a tool to sync sales from Mercado Libre with Google Sheets, Notion released its public API, prompting Leandro to shift his focus.

Leveraging the code he had written for Mercado Libre, Leandro adapted it to sync Notion databases with Google Sheets. This pivot proved to be a smart move, as the Notion community quickly embraced the product. Within two weeks, he had an MVP ready and listed in the Google Workspace Marketplace, attracting immediate interest and installs.

The early success of Sync2Sheets can be attributed to its timely entry into the market and the functionality it offered. By addressing a clear need for data synchronization between popular platforms, Leandro was able to capture the attention of a broad user base, from small businesses to larger companies.

Creating the Company

Developing Sync2Sheets required meticulous attention to detail to ensure the data in Google Sheets mirrored that in Notion as closely as possible. Leandro spent considerable time on features like conditional formatting and data validation to replicate Notion's properties in Sheets. Ensuring that users could edit and reorganize data in Sheets without breaking the sync was also crucial.

The development process took two weeks from start to submitting the add-on to the Google Workspace Marketplace. Despite a significant bug that caused data overwriting in the last row of Sheets, Leandro quickly addressed the issue. The initial version of Sync2Sheets was well-received, setting the stage for further refinements and updates.

Launching the add-on involved creating a landing page using Hugo and navigating the Google OAuth review and marketplace submission processes. These steps were essential in making Sync2Sheets available to a broader audience and ensuring its functionality and security met Google's standards.

Launching the Business

Leandro's launch strategy for Sync2Sheets involved leveraging social media platforms and online communities. He posted about the add-on on Twitter, Facebook groups, and the r/Notion subreddit, using videos and images to demonstrate its features. This approach helped generate initial interest, resulting in around 15 installs per day.

In addition to social media, Leandro used F5Bot to monitor relevant keywords on Reddit and engaged with users by recommending Sync2Sheets when appropriate. This tactic helped increase visibility and drive traffic to the product. Engaging directly with potential users and responding to their needs was a key part of his early marketing efforts.

One important lesson Leandro learned was the necessity of experimenting with different marketing strategies. He emphasized the importance of talking to users, gathering feedback, and iterating on the product based on real-world usage and suggestions. This iterative approach helped refine Sync2Sheets and improve its appeal.

Earnings

Sync2Sheets is currently profitable, with monthly expenses around $500 for cloud services, email, and other tools. Leandro plans to explore advertising in the future to drive more traffic and conversions. The customer lifetime value is approximately $300, and the churn rate stands at 7%.

Leandro is now focusing on outbound strategies on LinkedIn and generating AI-assisted content for SEO purposes. He aims to expand Sync2Sheets' functionality to sync with other tools, requiring a redesign of the add-on and adjustments to the landing page and pricing model.

One significant change that boosted MRR was eliminating the free plan, transitioning to a paid-only model. This decision increased the number of paying customers and reduced churn, as users now had to consider their commitment before canceling their subscriptions. This strategic move highlighted the importance of understanding and optimizing the product's pricing structure.
