About the Company

SaasRock is a boilerplate designed to help developers build SaaS applications quickly and efficiently. It includes features like Authentication, Subscriptions, Audit-trails, Events & Webhooks, Pricing Plan Builder, Entity Builder, Blogging, Permissions, and more. SaasRock is built using Remix, Tailwind CSS, and Prisma, and integrates with Stripe for payments, Postmark for emails, and Zapier for webhooks. The platform is hosted on Vercel and uses Supabase as its PostgreSQL database provider.

Alexandro Martinez, the founder of SaasRock, targets full-stack developers and low-code engineers looking for a powerful starter codebase for their SaaS projects. The platform is designed to streamline the development process by providing pre-built, customizable features that save time and effort. SaasRock's current Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) is $4,380, and the business has been growing steadily since its inception in March 2022.

The company operates from Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, and has gained a following among developers who appreciate the ease and efficiency it brings to building SaaS applications. By offering a comprehensive set of tools and features out of the box, SaasRock has positioned itself as a valuable resource for developers aiming to launch their SaaS projects quickly and effectively.

Idea Behind Company

Alexandro Martinez was a C# (.NET WinForms) developer for eight years before transitioning to web application development. He initially learned Vue2 and .NET Core, building two websites for clients and falling in love with Vue on the frontend and .NET on the backend. This led him to create NetcoreSaas, a SaaS codebase using NET, Vue, and Tailwind CSS, which he launched on AppSumo, garnering around 50 customers.

However, Alexandro felt that his development process could be faster, as he had to run the frontend app on VS Code and the backend app on Visual Studio. This realization led him to experiment with different frontend frameworks, migrating his Vue2 app to Vue3, then to React, and finally to Svelte, resulting in the creation of SaasFrontends, which generated $765. Despite these efforts, Alexandro continued to seek the perfect stack for his projects.

When Alexandro discovered Remix, a full-stack JavaScript framework focused on web standards, he knew it was the ideal stack. He quickly built v0.0.1 of "The Remix SaaS Kit" (now SaasRock) in just seven days and offered it for free for 24 hours. The offer became popular, receiving over 1,000 downloads after being retweeted by the Remix team. This success prompted Alexandro to open source his other SaaS kits and focus entirely on developing SaasRock.

Creating the Company

In designing the initial product, Alexandro adopted a full-stack approach thanks to Remix. Previously, he would split his time between frontend design, backend development, and other aspects like database management, email server setup, and SEO. Now, with Remix, he could build full-stack features within a single file, encompassing frontend, database, email server, meta tags for SEO, and authorization logic. This streamlined process allowed for more efficient development and a cohesive final product.

Alexandro documented his building process in a YouTube series titled "Building a SaaS with SaasRock," providing a detailed look at how he designed and developed the platform. This transparency helped build trust with potential customers and showcased the capabilities of SaasRock. The streamlined approach also meant that each feature was developed with the end-user in mind, ensuring a high-quality product that met the needs of developers.

The initial launch of SaasRock was entirely bootstrapped. Alexandro spent approximately $300 on the domain, $250 on a logo (which he later replaced), and $70 per month on hosting and database services. He meticulously planned the launch, setting up necessary infrastructure like domains, email servers, and social media accounts. Despite the initial challenges, the launch was successful, and the product evolved significantly, with a modern and professional look that attracted early adopters.

Launching the Business

The launch of SaasRock involved three main stages. The first stage was a 24-hour free offer on March 28th, which attracted around 1,000 gumroad customers, effectively generating 1,066 prospects. This initial exposure was crucial in building a user base and creating buzz around the product. The free offer allowed developers to experience the value of SaasRock firsthand, leading to word-of-mouth promotion and increased interest.

The second stage was the sale of "The Remix SaaS Kit" starting on March 29th, priced at $299. In the first month, Alexandro secured 19 customers, generating $3,063 in revenue. This stage demonstrated the willingness of developers to invest in a high-quality, time-saving tool. It also provided valuable feedback from paying customers, which Alexandro used to refine the product and address any issues.

The third stage was the pre-launch of SaasRock on June 1st, with a subscription model priced at $99 per month for the Core Edition and $149 per month for the Enterprise Edition. This stage marked a shift to a recurring revenue model, which provided a more stable income stream. By September 15th, SaasRock had 69 subscribers and $8,000 in revenue, validating the market demand for a Remix SaaS boilerplate and setting the stage for further growth.

Earnings

SaasRock's current Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) is $4,380, with a steadily growing customer base. Alexandro attributes part of this success to the community built around the product, primarily through a dedicated Discord server. The server allows customers to share feedback, ask questions, and provide input on future features, fostering a sense of community and ownership among users. This engagement has been instrumental in attracting and retaining customers.

Alexandro has also leveraged content marketing to attract and retain customers. He connects his development updates with various content channels, including blog posts, YouTube videos, and tweets. Each feature he builds is documented and shared across these platforms, creating a comprehensive marketing strategy that keeps customers informed and engaged. This approach has helped build a loyal customer base and attract new users to SaasRock.
