KO-Pack
About the Company
KO-Pack, based in Chandler, AZ, offers contract manufacturing, private label men’s grooming, and fulfillment services. The company works with a diverse range of partners, from small startups to large brands like Walmart and Costco. The company is dedicated to becoming an integral part of its partners' supply chains by providing tailored manufacturing and packaging solutions.
Founded by Payton LaCivita, Loren Scott, Ken LaCivita, JP Patchett, and Rachel Kubel, KO-Pack was launched during the pandemic and has consistently grown, achieving 40-60% year-over-year growth. The company has a reputation for being responsive to client needs and for providing innovative solutions to help brands expand their product offerings.
Idea Behind Company
Payton LaCivita's entrepreneurial spirit began at a young age, inspired by his family's business ventures. After college, Payton started a brand and grew it successfully on Amazon, which led him to consult for other brands. The idea for KO-Pack emerged when one of Payton's clients expressed dissatisfaction with their fulfillment center. This opportunity, combined with Payton’s experience in Amazon and fulfillment, led to the formation of KO-Pack.
The founders of KO-Pack saw an opportunity in the market for a responsive and flexible contract manufacturing company that could cater to both small and large brands. They identified a gap in the market for a manufacturer that could integrate fulfillment services, enabling them to turn their warehouse into a revenue-generating center.
Creating the Company
The construction of KO-Pack's 18,000 sq ft facility began in October 2019, and the company officially opened its doors in May 2020. The facility was designed with scalability in mind, featuring climate-controlled production rooms and automated filling machines that allow for efficient production with minimal manual intervention.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, KO-Pack adapted by producing essential items like hand sanitizer and room sprays. This flexibility helped the company establish itself in the market. The founders' focus on building strategic partnerships with chemists, equipment manufacturers, and raw material suppliers was crucial to the company's early success.
Launching the Business
Launching during a pandemic was a challenge for KO-Pack, but it forced the company to innovate and adapt quickly. Initially, the company focused on producing essential items, which helped it gain traction. Over time, KO-Pack found its niche in the men’s grooming space and began developing custom formulations for partner brands.
KO-Pack's success has been driven by its ability to identify the right customer fit and by shifting from selling services to selling products. The company developed a strategy to offer complementary products to existing brand portfolios, which proved to be a game-changer. This approach, combined with a focus on customer service and innovation, has helped KO-Pack attract and retain clients.
Earnings
KO-Pack has achieved significant growth since its launch, averaging $150,000 per month in revenue. The company’s growth is driven by cold outreach, targeted marketing, and a diversified client base. KO-Pack’s client roster includes small businesses, venture-backed direct-to-consumer brands, and mid-sized Amazon brands, providing a strong foundation for future growth.
While KO-Pack is close to profitability, the rapid expansion has been costly, requiring significant investment in staff, equipment, and raw materials. Despite the challenges, the company’s consistent growth and strategic planning position it well for continued success in the contract manufacturing and copacking industry.
