Guestio
About the Company
Guestio is a SaaS platform and agency that helps connect podcast guests with podcast hosts. Founded by Travis Chappell in June 2020 and based in Las Vegas, NV, the company aims to facilitate better conversations and higher quality content in the podcasting world. The platform offers software subscriptions that enable users to create press kits, send pitches, and communicate with potential guests or hosts seamlessly.
The platform also includes an agency service designed to manage the entire process on behalf of the client. This service is typically used by high-profile clients, including 7-9 figure founders, to book appearances on top podcasts. The agency service aims to enhance clients’ publicity, authority, credibility, and traffic through strategic podcast appearances.
As of August 2022, Guestio has achieved impressive growth, reaching $220,000 in monthly revenue. The company raised a $1.3 million pre-seed round to support its development and operations. With seven employees and a steady increase in demand, Guestio continues to expand its services and user base, setting a new standard in the podcast booking industry.
Idea Behind Company
Travis Chappell's journey to founding Guestio began with a background in door-to-door sales, a career he pursued throughout college and after graduation. Seeking a new direction, he explored personal development and discovered the medium of podcasting. Enthralled by the format, he launched his own podcast, Build Your Network, which gained traction and prompted inquiries from others about his methods and success.
Through his experience in podcasting, Travis identified a significant challenge: the difficulty of finding and booking quality guests, as well as securing appearances on prominent podcasts to promote one’s own show or business. This gap in the market inspired him to create Guestio, a platform designed to streamline and enhance the guest-booking process for both podcasters and potential guests.
The unique advantage of Guestio lies in Travis's prior experience and established audience in the podcasting space. By leveraging his insights and connections, he was able to tailor the platform to meet the specific needs of podcasters and guests, ensuring a high level of usability and relevance. This foundation enabled Guestio to attract its initial user base organically, validating the concept and setting the stage for future growth.
Creating the Company
As a non-technical founder, Travis Chappell needed assistance to develop the software for Guestio. He enlisted the help of a trusted friend who had experience in software development and had recently founded a software development firm. They invested six months and $90,000, utilizing 0% interest credit cards to build the first version of the product. This phase was crucial for learning valuable lessons about the importance of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and the challenges of including unnecessary features early on.
One of the key insights during this development phase was understanding the true definition of an MVP. Initially, Travis insisted on incorporating a scheduling feature similar to Calendly within Guestio. However, after spending $20,000 to build this feature, they realized that users were uncomfortable with leaving their availability open without confirming interviews first. This led to the removal of the feature shortly after launch, underscoring the importance of focusing on core functionalities.
The initial version of Guestio was designed to help podcasters book high-profile guests in a Cameo-style marketplace. However, through months of testing and user feedback, they discovered a greater demand for a platform that facilitated guest promotions on various podcasts. This pivot not only aligned with market needs but also significantly boosted their revenue and marked a turning point in Guestio's growth trajectory.
Launching the Business
Guestio’s initial growth was fueled by Travis Chappell’s existing audience and organic word of mouth. The platform attracted its first 1,000 users within a few months without any paid advertising, thanks to the warm audience from Travis’s podcast and personal brand. This organic growth phase allowed the team to gather valuable user feedback and make necessary improvements to the platform.
In early 2022, Guestio launched its first paid marketing campaign, marking a significant shift in their growth strategy. They introduced an acquisition funnel offering a $1 two-week trial, which included a $27 order bump and an annual subscription offer at a discounted rate. This approach significantly increased their average order value (AOV) and helped attract more users to the platform. Within 60 days, they achieved $15,000 in monthly recurring revenue (MRR) from software subscriptions.
Additionally, the acquisition funnel featured a video sales letter (VSL) on the thank you page, directing qualified customers to apply for Guestio’s agency services. These services, starting at $4,000 per month, added substantial revenue from high-ticket clients. This comprehensive marketing strategy, combining low-cost trials with high-value upsells, propelled Guestio’s growth and solidified its revenue streams from both software and agency services.
Earnings
As of August 2022, Guestio generates approximately $220,000 in monthly revenue, with the potential for further growth. The company achieved profitability thanks to its agency services, which complement the recurring revenue from its software subscriptions. This financial success has enabled Guestio to invest in expanding both its service offerings and its team.
Guestio’s future plans include enhancing its software capabilities and expanding its agency services to cater to a broader audience. The company aims to set the standard for podcast bookings and continue innovating in the podcasting industry. To support this growth, Guestio is looking to hire key roles in product development, technology, and operations, ensuring they can meet the increasing demand and maintain high service standards.
With a projected annual revenue nearing $2 million, Guestio is well-positioned for continued success. The company’s growth rate and strategic focus on both software and agency services indicate a promising future. By continuously improving their offerings and expanding their team, Guestio aims to solidify its position as a leader in the podcast booking industry.
