Dealpad
About the Company
dealpad.io is a Digital Sales Room Platform designed to streamline the sales process for B2B software organizations. Founded by Adam Baker and Kim in April 2021, the company focuses on creating personalized buying rooms that enhance engagement between sellers and buyers. This platform includes features like personalized video messages, live chat, content libraries, stakeholder mapping, and Mutual Action Plans, all aimed at increasing the likelihood of closing deals.
dealpad.io's primary customers are B2B software companies with annual recurring revenues ranging from $2 million to $200 million. The company has experienced significant growth since its inception, onboarding its first customer in April 2022 and achieving $600,000 in ARR by September 2022. The core product's success is attributed to its ability to facilitate a two-way purchasing process, deeply aligned with the buying team, and thereby significantly boosting deal closure rates.
The company's growth strategy involved focusing on direct engagement with prospective customers, leveraging personalized automated email sequences, and utilizing LinkedIn outreach. This approach proved effective, allowing dealpad.io to attract and retain customers with minimal marketing expenditure. The company's revenue model is based on annual license fees, which renew automatically, ensuring a steady stream of income.
Idea Behind Company
Adam Baker's journey to founding dealpad.io began with a sales career that led him to various roles, including Vice President of Sales at Intuit and Senior Vice President of Sales at Salesforce. These experiences allowed him to develop a robust sales framework using Excel, which he iterated over a decade. This framework became the foundation for dealpad.io's software.
Adam's previous ventures, Rehash and Blottr, provided valuable lessons in entrepreneurship. Rehash, which built behavioral targeting solutions for ad networks, was successfully acquired by a Danish ad network. Blottr, a people-powered news organization, faced significant challenges in monetization but ultimately succeeded through a pivot to a SaaS model. These experiences taught Adam the importance of adaptability, transparency, and a relentless focus on revenue generation.
Inspired by the success of his sales framework and the potential to impact sales teams positively, Adam decided to transform the framework into software. This decision led to the creation of dealpad.io, a platform designed to address common pain points in the sales process and help teams close deals more consistently.
Creating the Company
The development of dealpad.io started with the Excel model used by over 500 salespeople. The initial goal was to automate the existing capabilities and integrate Machine Learning and Intelligence layers. However, early user feedback revealed that the Excel model's framework didn't transition well into software, necessitating a pivot before onboarding the first paying customer.
The pivot involved extensive collaboration with pilot users to understand their habits and needs. This iterative process led to the development of a new version of the product, 2.0, which incorporated user feedback and addressed key pain points. The redesigned product featured improved UI, integrations with existing CRM tools, and enhanced Mutual Action Plans, making it more user-friendly and effective.
Building 2.0 in close collaboration with pilot customers saved time and resources, preventing the team from going down an unproductive path. This approach ensured that the product met users' needs and delivered value from the outset. The pivot set back the initial traction plan by three months but ultimately positioned dealpad.io for long-term success.
Launching the Business
Launching dealpad.io involved overcoming several challenges, including transitioning from an Excel model to software and redesigning the product and website. Despite initial setbacks, the team leveraged pilot customer relationships to gather critical feedback and refine the product. This iterative process helped build a more robust and user-friendly platform.
The initial launch strategy focused on controlled, low-cost marketing efforts. The team tested paid LinkedIn ads and PPC but quickly shifted to personalized automated email sequences and LinkedIn outreach. This approach allowed them to attract and engage potential customers effectively, building a strong foundation for growth.
Content creation played a significant role in building brand awareness and engaging the target audience. The team produced e-books, infographics, and podcasts featuring software sales leaders. These efforts helped expand their reach, establish relationships with ideal customers, and generate valuable content for marketing and engagement.
Earnings
dealpad.io operates on an Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) model, charging an annual license fee for its product. As of September 2022, the company has achieved $600,000 in ARR and is on track to grow at 250% year-on-year. By September 2023, they expect to reach $2 million in ARR, with a long-term goal of $10 million by 2025.
The company's low Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) of $140 is attributed to its focused, cost-effective marketing strategies. As dealpad.io invests more in top-of-the-funnel marketing activities, the CAC is expected to rise but remain optimized to ensure sustainable growth. The current LTV:CAC ratio is exceptionally high at 6:1, double the industry average, indicating strong long-term profitability.
dealpad.io's lean team includes Adam, Kim, an SDR, a Marketing Manager, an Account Executive, two engineers, and a UI designer. The company operates as a distributed workforce, allowing them to hire the best talent regardless of location. This flexible structure supports their growth strategy and enables them to scale effectively as they expand their product offerings and customer base.
