Blue Oceans Green Earth
About the Company
Blue Oceans Green Earth is an online blog founded by Dave, Cynthia, and Michelle. The company focuses on promoting eco-friendly alternatives to plastic products. Initially started as a part-time experiment, it quickly grew into a brand dedicated to raising awareness about the plastic pollution problem and providing practical solutions for reducing plastic use.
The team behind Blue Oceans Green Earth consists of the three founders and one employee. They leverage their personal experiences and lifestyle choices to drive the content and mission of the blog. The company's name and focus have evolved to better reflect its commitment to eco-friendly living and sustainability.
Idea Behind Company
The idea for Blue Oceans Green Earth originated from Dave and Cynthia's lifestyle of reducing plastic use. They wanted to extend their efforts by creating an affiliate marketing website that combined informative content about plastic pollution with product recommendations for glass food containers.
During the pandemic, Dave considered the potential of affiliate marketing and discussed the idea with Cynthia. They decided to create a hybrid site that would not only generate affiliate revenue but also educate people about the impact of plastic on the environment. Their initial goal was to gain experience and see if the site could become self-sustaining through affiliate income.
Creating the Company
With the concept in mind, the team named their project Glass is Better and secured the domain for $9. Dave, with his web admin experience, quickly set up a WordPress site using a free, simple theme that supported their message. They added the site to Google and Bing Webmaster tools to establish its online presence.
The launch process involved writing 30 product review posts based on a YouTuber’s affiliate marketing strategy, aiming to attract Google search traffic. They hired virtual assistants (VAs) for research and content creation, investing in a professional keyword research tool to optimize their SEO efforts. By September 2021, they had joined the Amazon affiliate program, marking the official launch of their business.
Launching the Business
The launch saw mixed results, with sporadic sales during the Christmas season. They earned small commissions from Amazon affiliate links, but the return on investment was initially low. The focus on churning out product reviews overshadowed their mission to raise awareness about plastic pollution.
Post-Christmas, traffic dwindled, and the founders realized they had strayed from their core purpose. Cynthia suggested refocusing on their original goal of promoting plastic alternatives. They rebranded to Blue Oceans Green Earth, which allowed them to cover a broader range of eco-friendly products. The relaunch included a new logo, high-performance hosting, updated site design, and a link-building strategy centered around featuring eco-friendly products from small businesses.
Earnings
As of August 2022, the rebrand and new strategies were starting to pay off. Although not yet profitable, sales were growing, and the brand was gaining traction. The team balanced their revenue channels by selling their products and earning sponsor revenue from featured products.
Their experience taught them to carefully consider the products they promote and to stay true to their mission. They emphasized the importance of starting and learning from actual results. The rebrand around their plastic reduction message kept them motivated and aligned with their core values, providing a solid foundation for future growth.
